A man, Officers refer to as a “serial burglar,” has been charged with burglarizing the Shelby County Administration Building downtown last month. The suspect was caught early today as he was breaking into another Shelby County Government building in the downtown area.
Terrius Patton, 30, of Memphis, was arrested about 4:30 at the Shelby County Support Services Building at 584 Adams. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Homeland Security Bureau and Memphis Police Officers went to the building after a burglar alarm was set off. The Sheriff’s Homeland Security Bureau provides security at all Shelby County Government buildings.
As Officers arrived, they noticed a glass door had been smashed and two large garbage bags filled with office supplies on the parking lot. The items had been taken from the building.
“Alex,” a Memphis Police K-9 dog, was turned loose to roam the building. Patton quickly ran out and was arrested without resistance.
After reviewing surveillance video of the April 28 burglary of the Shelby County Administration at 160 North Main, Sheriff’s Office detectives identified Patton as the man who took electronic items and office supplies from the Public Works and Finance Division offices on the 8th floor.
Memphis Police detectives say Patton has been arrested eleven (11) times for burglary since 2003, the most recent burglary arrest being last week on May 7. Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff’s detectives are jointly working on the case and believe Patton may be responsible for other burglaries.
