Sheriff’s Detectives Charge Two With Burning Sports Utility Vehicle

Release Date: July 6, 2004

Two men face charges in connection with a fire that destroyed a sports utility vehicle this past weekend.

Derron Parquet, 22, and Lavale Washington, 21, who identified themselves as students on the University of Memphis Football Team, were taken into custody this past Friday night, July 2, 2004, just after ten thirty.

Earlier that evening, a passing motorist saw a vehicle on fire in a field on Pisgah Road near Graybourne. A witness saw a man run from the area, get into a car and drive away.

After the car was stopped, deputies questioned the men in the car and charged Parquet and Washington with Setting Fire To Personal Property or Land, which is a class E felony.

Both Parquet and Washington are free on bond. Detectives say their investigation is continuing as to the motive for why the vehicle was burned. The SUV was registered to Parquet’s father who lives in Kenner, Louisiana.
