Sgt. Joe Everson Sr.

Deputy Lewis Chapman

Deputy Lewis D. Chapman, Jr., assigned to the Patrol Bureau, was visited today by agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Agents interviewed Sergeant Joe Everson, a detective with the General Investigation Bureau, yesterday.

Sergeant Everson and Deputy Chapman have not been charged with any crime. However, both officers have been questioned by T.B.I. agents about an incident earlier this month. On July 18, 2007, T.B.I. agents discovered bugging devices and surveillance equipment hidden inside the Fraternal Order of Police Campground facilities in Wilson County.

A former Metro Nashville Police Department lieutenant now employed by the Teamsters Union was arrested in connection with the case. Any specifics about the burglary should be directed to Kristin Helm, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Public Affairs Officer at (615) 744-4087.

Sergeant Everson and Deputy Chapman will be off-duty with pay pending the outcome of an administrative investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Professional Standards and Integrity. Sergeant Everson has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1988. Deputy Chapman hired on with the department in 1999.
