Release Date: May 30, 2007
A Fayette County teenager was killed about 2:30 yesterday afternoon after he lost control of his car. The crash happened minutes after the teenager shot two salespersons at a Bartlett motorcycle business. One of those salespersons, Glen Page, Jr., 32, of Cordova, was killed. The other salesperson, a woman, was taken to the Regional Medical Center in stable condition after being shot in the arm.
Bartlett Police investigators say Dexter R. Brown, 17, of Braden, Tennessee, had gone to Kawasaki of Memphis at 6412 Summer Avenue (Highway 70) to pick up a motorcycle he had bought the day before. Without warning, Brown pulled out a pistol and shot the two employees.
The teenager then left the business in a white 1996 Honda, driving east on Highway 70. As he approached the Arlington area, a Shelby County Deputy traveling west-bound near Seed Tick Road saw Brown’s vehicle. However, the vehicle had not yet been identified as the one involved in the shooting.
Moments later, the deputy turned around after a description of the getaway vehicle had been broadcasted to deputies by their dispatcher.
The vehicle had briefly pulled into a parking lot of a convenience store at the intersection of Lamb Road at Highway 70. As another deputy on routine patrol approached the store, Brown’s car pulled out of the parking lot, narrowly missing the deputy’s cruiser.
Less than a minute later, Brown’s car, now traveling at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and proceeded through a bean field running parallel to Highway 70.
The car then hit an embankment going airborne near Jetway Avenue.
Brown was thrown from the vehicle. Traffic deputies said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Following the crash, it was learned Brown was the person responsible for the murder. Investigators found the gun inside the Honda that was used to kill the salesperson at the motorcycle shop.
Other details of this case are being released by the Bartlett Police Department. The contact is Lieutenant Rory Mack. His number is (901) 385-5510.
