Shelby County Sheriff's detectives have charged a man for shooting and critically injuring a teenager last week in South Shelby County.
Deputies arrested Phillip Harris, 25, of South Shelby County, yesterday afternoon about 3:30. Sheriff’s detectives received a tip Harris was the person who shot the teenager and also fired his pistol at five others who were walking with the young man in the 6600 block of Nelson Way.
A Sheriff’s patrolman spotted Harris yesterday morning driving near his home in the 6300 block of Harvest Run Cove in South Shelby County. Soon afterwards, Sheriff’s Street Crimes Bureau Deputies, working with Sheriff’s patrolmen and detectives in the General Investigation Bureau, arrested Harris.
Deputies say Harris and four others approached the victim and five others last Tuesday night as they walked in the 6600 block of Nelson Way. Investigators say there was a confrontation and Harris began shooting. Detectives say the shooting was the result of an argument the week before between two people, one from each group. The young man shot was not involved in the confrontation.
After hearing gunshots last week, neighbors called the Sheriff’s Office. A Sheriff’s patrolman who responded found the victim in the yard at 6665 Nelson Way. The 15 year-old had been shot in the back and remains in critical condition at The Regional Medical Center.
Sheriff’s detectives say the investigation is continuing and there could be more arrests. Phillip Harris has been charged with six (6) counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
