Teenager Shot and Man Beaten In Northaven
Release Date: December 18, 2006
Sheriff's deputies are continuing their search today for a man who attacked a teenager and another man in the North Shelby County area this past weekend.
The teenager, Cortez Thomas, 16, was shot and his friend, Johnny Walker, 22, beaten just before 8 p.m. Saturday night.
Investigators say the attack happened near the intersection of Breckenwood and Brandywine in the Northaven community.
The victims told detectives a man in a gray Dodge Intrepid pulled along side of them as they walked near the intersection.
After the attack, the two victims ran to Walker’s home in the 800 block of Pitney where people there called for deputies.
Both victims were taken to the Regional Medical Center.
Cortez Thomas remains in the hospital today recovering from surgery. Walker was treated and released.
Deputies believe the incident was linked to another fight earlier in the day on Saturday.
Anyone with information about the man in the gray Dodge Intrepid is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274).
