South Shelby County Man Robbed and Shot Today

Release Date: February 14, 2005

Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for two men involved in a robbery and shooting this morning at a South Shelby County neighborhood.

Deputies went to the 7700 block of East Thunderstone Circle, not far from Hacks Cross near Bill Morris Parkway, about 10:30. The man who lives there, Hugh Mitchell, 38, called 9-1-1 and said he had been shot and robbed.

Investigators say Mitchell told them he heard a noise at the back of his house. When he went outside, two men confronted him. Mitchell said one of the men shot him. The men robbed him of an underdetermined amount of money and then jumped over the backyard fence. Deputies and search dogs looked for the two men but they were not found.

Mitchell told deputies one of the two men was black, the other appeared to be Latino. He said the men were dressed in gray and black sweatshirts. Mitchell was taken to St. Francis Hospital. He was not critically injured.

Anyone with information about the shooting and robbery should call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Detective Division at (901) 545-5600 or Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH (2274).
