Shootout in Cordova leaves one man injured

Release Date: January 22, 2003

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says a Cordova man was injured shortly after nine o’clock this morning after being shot several times at his home. Investigators say the man then shot back at his assailant who was later arrested.

The shooting happened shortly after nine o’clock in the 8900 block of Timber Trail Cove in Cordova. Investigators say 41-year-old Jeff Droke was shot several times as he was standing in the front yard of his home. Investigators say Droke, who apparently was armed with a gun, fired several shots at the suspect’s car as it sped away.

Within a couple of hours, Sheriff’s Detectives had arrested the man responsible for shooting Droke. Investigators say charges are pending against a 19-year-old Memphis man.

Sheriff’s Office detectives say they’re still trying to find out details about what led to the shooting. They believe the victim was recently trying to intervene in a family dispute.
