“Zero Tolerance” Crime Suppression Effort Yields Eight Arrests and 200 Traffic Violations In South-East Shelby County

Shelby County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputies from the Patrol, Fugitive, Traffic and Metro Gang units conducted a crime suppression initiative this past Saturday night (July 9) in South-East Shelby County.

For eight hours, about 100 Reserve Deputies and 20 support personnel from the Sheriff's Emergency Services and Special Services bureaus patrolled the neighborhoods near the intersection of Shelby Drive at Riverdale.

"Concerns voiced by residents and our crime statistics pointed to the need to combine our resources in this part of Shelby County . Some of the crimes being committed in this part of Memphis and Shelby County are connected to criminal gangs ," said Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr .

Deputies took a "zero tolerance" approach to all crimes in the area. Here are the results of the crime suppression effort:

  • Physical Arrests- 8 (6 fugitives and two other arrests-one that involved $8,000 worth of marijuana discovered in his vehicle)
  • Misdemeanor Citations- 7 (booking at a later date and mandatory court appearance)
  • Traffic Citations- 101
  • Traffic Warning Tickets- 132

Crime statistics are monitored daily by the Sheriff's Office. As crime trends are noted, other "zero tolerance" enforcement efforts will be conducted by Reserve Deputies.
