Traumatized Children To Benefit From Motorcycle Riders’ Generosity

Release Date: March 27, 2006

Children who are associated with traumatic events investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be comforted thanks to the generosity of Bumpus Harley-Davidson and motorcycle enthusiasts.

The “Sheriff’s Teddy Bear Parade” will be held this Saturday, April 1, at the motorcycle dealership at 2160 Whitten Road.  At 1:00 p.m., Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr., will receive stuffed animals donated by motorcycle riders and visitors to the dealership.

“We can’t thank those at Bumpus Harley-Davidson enough for their desire to help children. Each day children are victims of crime or vehicle crashes.  These stuffed animals will help calm their fears,” said Sheriff Luttrell.

After the 1:00 p.m. ceremony, a caravan of motorcycles will travel several miles to the Sheriff’s Office Substation in Arlington where another group of Deputies will receive the stuffed animals.  Motorcyclists must donate a stuffed animal to ride in caravan.

“We wanted to do something to show our appreciation for Deputies and their service to our community, especially children.  Nothing can be more important than providing support for children who are hurting,” said Joe Kilpatrick, Events Coordinator for Bumpus Harley-Davidson.

The collection drive for stuffed animals continues all this week and is not limited to those who ride motorcycles. For more information contact Joe Kilpatrick at Bumpus Harley- Davidson at (901) 372-1211.
