Release Date: February 12, 2007

Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. is assisting the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association in its effort to create new alliances with citizens and businesses across the state.

Sheriffs from all 95 counties in Tennessee work with the association and are hoping new community partnerships will help their departments reduce and prevent crime across the state.

“With government funding becoming increasingly difficult to secure, the membership drive has taken on greater importance than ever before,” said Sheriff Luttrell.  “The funding is vital to helping us carry out our mission of making our communities safer.”

“Honorary Membership” fees underwrite training programs designed for Sheriff’s Deputies and law enforcement officers.  The money also pays for crime prevention bulletins and the office expenses of Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association Headquarters in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Citizen memberships are $20 and business memberships are $50.  The memberships are not an official “credential” nor do they give citizens any law enforcement powers.  “Honorary Memberships” with the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association are tax-deductible.  Anyone interested in joining the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association may call (615) 547-0277.
