Undercover Beer Sting Results In Violations At Cordova and East Shelby County Area Businesses

Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad visited businesses in the Cordova and East Shelby County areas this past Friday night. Clerks at half of the locations visited by officers sold alcohol to persons below the legal drinking age of 21.
On Friday evening, January 27, 2005, Deputies and other officers visited 33 locations which included convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores along Highway 64, Germantown Parkway and other nearby business districts. Clerks at 16 businesses sold beer to minors.
Those who sold alcohol to underage customers received misdemeanor citations and will have to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Jail Annex to be booked and fingerprinted at the Records and Identification Division.
The sting last Friday night was part of an on-going effort funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
This was the second undercover sting this year. Sheriff’s Deputies and other officers on the Metro D.U.I. Squad have arrested 28 people for selling alcohol to underage persons.
