Shelby County Sheriff’s detectives continue their search for vandals who caused more than a quarter of a million dollars in damage to heavy construction equipment near Woodstock.
A bulldozer and two excavating track hoes were vandalized on a lot being cleared for a new building in the 5000 block of Highway 51 near Fite Road. A tilt-bed dump trailer was also stolen from the jobsite.
Workers with Dillard Construction Company discovered the damage on the afternoon of Sunday, August 10th. Detectives believe the person or persons responsible are familiar with heavy construction equipment.
The vandals were able to start the bulldozer which was then rammed at full throttle into the track hoes. The cabs of the track hoes were smashed. The engine in the bulldozer was burned up.
Several competitors of Dillard Construction have donated their equipment to finish the job and are offering a cash reward for the information that leads to an arrest.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office General Investigation Bureau are leading the investigation. They can be reached at (901) 545-5600.
