Store Clerks In Arlington, Lakeland and North Shelby County Face Violations Resulting From Beer Sting

Release Date: August 24, 2005

Officers with the Metro D.U.I. Squad went undercover last evening and found clerks at seven (7) businesses in Memphis and Shelby County selling alcohol to persons under the legal drinking age of 21.

Deputies and other officers visited 12 convenience and liquor stores in Lakeland, Arlington, and along Highway 51 in North Memphis and North Shelby County.

Clerks who received misdemeanor citations must report to the Shelby County Jail to be booked and fingerprinted.

Officers continually find that the majority of stores checked during the beer stings are in violation of the law.

Last night’s sting was part of an on-going effort by the Metro D.U.I. Squad, funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, to stop the sale of alcohol to minors.
