Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators say a teenager was killed in a one-vehicle crash early yesterday morning near Shelby Forest.

Deputies say David R. Boyd, II, 19, of Millington, was driving a 1999 GMC Suburban north on Watkins about 5 o'clock Sunday morning.

Officers say Boyd's vehicle hit a guardrail just north of Fite Road. The SUV then veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

Boyd was the only person in the SUV. Deputies say Boyd may possibly have fallen asleep. Investigators say, however, speed was a factor in the crash. Boyd was wearing his seat belt.
