Shelby County Sheriff's Office Traffic Deputies say an elderly woman died this morning after her car ran off Shelby Drive near Forest Hill Irene Road in South-East Shelby County.
Just before 10 o’clock, Fanita Williams, 75, of Rossville, who was alone her car, was heading west on Shelby Drive.
As her 1998 Chevrolet Lumina approached the 8700 block, just west of Forest Hill Irene Road, the car veered off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole.
Paramedics tried to revive Ms. Williams but were not successful. She was pronounced dead a short time later at Methodist Hospital Germantown.
Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigators believe a medical condition might have caused the one-vehicle crash. Deputies say there were no skid marks on the road and Ms. Williams was not speeding.
However, Deputies say she was not wearing her seat belt.
