Release Date: June 29, 2004
A Shelby County woman died today after her trailer home near Millington caught fire.
The Millington Fire Department and the Shelby County Fire Department arrived at the Shelby Road Trailer Park shortly after 7:30 this morning after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the trailer at 8243 Bobo Boulevard.
Firefighters forced their way into the trailer and found Diane Cooper, 51, lying in the living room. Ms. Cooper was rushed to Methodist Healthcare, North Hospital, where she died a few hours later.
She and her husband managed the Shelby Trailer Park. He was not home when the fire broke out. Family members said Ms. Cooper suffered from some physical disabilities and apparently could not get out of the trailer when the fire started in her bedroom.
Investigators with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Millington Fire Department and Shelby County Fire Department say the fire appears to be accidental. Due to the fire damage, an exact cause has not been determined.
