Deputies Conduct Zero Tolerance Enforcement Effort In South-East Shelby County
Release Date: December 18, 2006
Almost 75 Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and support personnel focused their attention in the South-East Shelby County areas last weekend. The effort was in response to a rise in home burglaries and other crime in the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office patrol districts.
“The safety of residents and business operators in this part of Shelby County is our priority. We must respond to spikes in our crime rate by having more deputies in the area patrolling and ensuring citizens get involved in neighborhood watch to report suspicious activity,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
For several hours last Friday evening (December 15) and early Saturday morning (December 16), Deputies assigned to the Patrol, Gang, S.W.A.T., Fugitive, Traffic, Narcotics, ALERT, Street Crimes and Reserve bureaus conducted the “zero tolerance” enforcement effort which included several traffic safety checkpoints.
As with the other “zero-tolerance” crime initiatives, Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted last weekend by members of the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Special Services and Jail Division which helped in the booking process of those arrested.
The Fugitive Division had 8 full time officers and 9 reserve officers who made 75 warrant attempts in District 2. The attempts netted 5 misdemeanor arrests which cleared 12 warrants.
Also, approximately 1000 counterfeit music CDs and movie DVDs were seized by deputies along with the duplicating equipment used to make the bogus albums and movies.
The counterfeit items were seized at the In-Town Hotel Suites in the 3300 block of Hickory Hill. One man was arrested and charged with Criminal Simulation which is a felony.
Here are the total results of the crime suppression effort:
Arrests — 31
- Felony — 28
- Misdemeanor — 3
Traffic Tickets — 248
- Regular — 131
- Courtesy — 117
Narcotics Recovered — 74 Ecstasy pills, 10g of crack cocaine and 27.9g of marijuana
Weapons Recovered — 1 pistol
“The “Zero Tolerance” enforcement initiatives will continue in high crime areas in the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Districts,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
