Deputies Target South Memphis In “Zero Tolerance” Enforcement Effort
Release Date: February 20, 2006
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputies concentrated their efforts last Friday night (February 17) to combat crime and enforce traffic laws in several South Memphis neighborhoods.
Almost 100 Sheriff’s Office Deputies and support personnel from the Emergency Services and Special Services Units conducted the “zero tolerance” enforcement effort along South Third, Belz, McLemore, Mississippi and other streets.
Officers took note of all crime observed in the area and gave special attention to those wanted on outstanding charges.
“Many citizens had called the Sheriff’s Office asking for additional patrols to address crime linked to criminal gangs. We want to reassure the people living in these South Memphis neighborhoods that we are a resource to help keep their neighborhoods safe,” said Sheriff Mark Luttrell, Jr.
The majority of the officers involved in the “zero tolerance” enforcement effort were Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputies who are required to serve 24 hours each month.
The Deputies serve in the Patrol and other divisions of the Sheriff’s Office and frequently assist in the “zero tolerance” enforcement efforts conducted routinely throughout Shelby County.
