Metro D.U.I. Officers and Sheriff's Deputies Will Conduct “Zero Tolerance” Traffic Effort to Combat Impaired Driving This Holiday Weekend
Release Date: December 30, 2004
This weekend, the Metro D.U.I. Unit as well as Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies, will be on high alert to stop anyone they believe may be driving under the influence.
“We know many New Year celebration parties will include alcohol. We'll be using every possible resource to keep our streets safe from impaired drivers,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.
Tonight, officers will be conducting seatbelt checks and looking for other violations in the south-east Shelby County area. Officers will be stationed at major intersections including Shelby Drive and Hacks Cross.
The “zero tolerance” enforcement effort will begin at 9 p.m. and continue through the early morning hours on New Year's Eve. Officers will stay on high alert throughout the holiday weekend to target impaired drivers.
Besides the traffic enforcement effort, both full-time and Reserve Deputies will also be assisting with security along Beale Street on New Year's Eve. Many parties will be held there.
“Our goal is for everyone to have a safe New Year's Day holiday and be protected from the dangers caused by impaired drivers,” added Sheriff Luttrell.
