Deputies Conduct Zero Tolerance Enforcement Effort In Cordova and East Shelby County

Release Date: July 3, 2006

Almost 100 Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and support personnel focused their attention on the Cordova and East Shelby County areas last Friday night. The effort was in response to a rise in home burglaries and other crime in those parts of Shelby County.

“The safety of residents and business operators in this part of Shelby County is our priority. Besides saturating the area with Deputies, we work continuously with area neighborhood watch groups to encourage people to report suspicious activity,” said Shelby County Sheriff Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

For several hours last Friday evening (June 30) and early Saturday morning (July 1), Deputies assigned to the Patrol, Gang, S.W.A.T., Fugitive, Narcotics and Reserve bureaus conducted the “zero tolerance” enforcement effort which included several traffic safety checkpoints.

As with the other “zero-tolerance” crime initiatives, Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted last weekend by members of the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services, Special Services and Jail Division which helped in the booking process of those arrested.

Here are the results of the crime suppression effort:

Arrests- 18

  • Felony-2
  • Misdemeanor-16

Traffic Tickets- 321

  • Regular-183
  • Courtesy-128

Narcotics Recovered-43.9 grams of marijuana

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, using many Reserve Deputies, routinely conducts “zero tolerance” enforcement efforts throughout Shelby County.
