Citizens' Academy

The Citizens’ Academy sessions include lectures, discussions and in-person visits to Citizens Academy Logovarious Sheriff’s Office divisions including the Shelby County Jail. Citizens’ Academy participants also have the opportunity to ride-along with patrol officers to see the challenges officers face as they patrol the streets. The goal of the Citizens’ Academy is not only to give the citizen’s of Shelby County a deeper understanding of who we are and why we do what we do, but to also forge a stronger relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the community we serve.

The Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications for class session (April 8, 2008 - June 17, 2008). Applications will be accepted through March 14, 2008. Participants must pass a background check to be eligible for the Citizens' Academy.
