| Deputy Sheriff Fielding F. Applebury was shot while serving a peace warrant in Arlington, TN to Alex Whitmore, a young black farm hand. Deputy Sheriff Fielding F. Applebury never used force when serving papers and was shot in the stomach by the farmhand while seated in his buggy with his pistol at his side. The farm's owner, Mr. Paul Battle heard the shots and summoned medical aid. Doctors operated on the Deputy Sheriff to no avail and he succumbed to the injury. | |
