The Citizens’ Academy sessions include lectures, discussions and in-person visits to various Sheriff’s Office divisions including the Shelby County Jail. Citizens’ Academy participants also have the opportunity to ride-along with patrol officers to see the challenges officers face as they patrol the streets. The goal of the Citizens’ Academy is not only to give the citizens of Shelby County a deeper understanding of who we are and why we do what we do, but to also forge a stronger relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the community we serve.
The dates for the Citizens/Faith-Based Community Academy are usually in the fall and spring of each year. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, the next Citizens' Academy is TBA at this time. Sessions for the Academy are usually schedule over a four-week period, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm each Tuesday and Thursday.
