Inmate medical, dental, and mental health services are provided by a contract provider WellPath formerly known as Correct Care Solutions (CCS). The contract provider is accredited by National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). Inmates have medical and mental health services available to them 24 hours a day. An inmate requiring medical attention that is not available at the facility is transported to the Regional One Health and/or the Med-Plex various clinics.
The mental health unit was open in 2008 as the Jail Mental Health Unit. The unit was designed for inmates that were in lockdown housing unit with medical illness to participate in programs. The inmates did extremely well on the unit. The criteria for the inmates to be considered for the unit was to be diagnosed with mental illness take care of their ADL’s and participate in programs. In 2012, we created the suicide precaution unit from a recommendation of Lindsey Hayes, who conducted a study in 2011 on the processes and management in housing the suicidal inmates that were formerly housed in 2K. We modified four cells in 2Q to accommodate inmates on suicide precaution and 5 step down cells. The inmates are required to participate in daily group, make phone calls to contact their family, gym activities and commissary as any other inmate. The inmates participate in Life Skills, MRT, Domestic Violence, Alcohol Drug and Group Therapy. All groups are conducted by the trained officers on the unit. Each officer receives additional mental health training in order to work on the unit. The inmates in 2P are also required to attend programs. All inmates on the unit are diagnosed mentally ill and on Correct Care Solutions (CCS) special needs list.
