records request
Here are three types of background information that the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office provides to our customers. Please read each type of request to see what category your request falls under, then click the link to send your email question to that office. A main telephone number is provided should you need to call for further details.
BUREAU OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND INTEGRITY (BPSI)
Law enforcement agencies or other organizations requesting disciplinary records or the employment history of current or former Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) employees should send their email request to the SCSO’s Bureau of Professional Standards and Integrity (BPSI) office at sheriffbpsi@shelby-sheriff.org. This request must be accompanied with a form titled “Authorization for Release of Personal Information” and signed by the current or former SCSO employee. BPSI will compile the disciplinary records and/or employment history, then email the documents to either the SCSO Human Resource’s Office or the Chief Policy Advisor Office (depending on the nature of the request) who can then officially release the information from the SCSO back to the requestor. Click HERE for the BPSI webpage. You may call BPSI at their main desk number at (901) 222-5700 if you have further questions.
RECORDS & IDENTIFICATION (R&I)
For police reports, please contact the Memphis Police Department at 901.636.3650.
There is a detailed frequently asked questions page for R&I regarding obtaining copies of police reports, finger printing, identification, and service fees. To view it on the SCSO webpage, click HERE, or navigate to the administration tab, then choose Records & Identification. The R&I mission statement reads, “... These services are offered in specialized and technical areas of AFIS identification, misdemeanor citation processing, records management and document imaging.” Call R&I at their main desk number at 901.222.4944 if you have further questions.
