“I wear the badge because it is the most challenging and rewarding work I have ever done. I truly believe I was born to do it. There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone during the worst time of their life, and giving them the light they need most to keep going and persevere through tragedy. I’m proud to wear the badge and be part of the Shelby County Sheriff‘s Office.”
- Deputy Stacey Lee, Detective Bureau

"I wear the badge to protect people who can't protect themselves. I wear the badge because a long line of men and women before me have paid the ultimate price for law and order in our great country and I want to honor them. I wear the badge to hopefully be a positive influence on youth before they go out into the real world and begin making life decisions."
- Deputy Christian Schuetz, Uniform Patrol

“It may sound cliché, but I felt the need to be a part of a change. For a while though, I wasn’t sure what that change was. I entered the Jail with no clear expectations of it… just something new and different to do. There were some days that were better than others, especially dealing with inmates on a daily basics. However, I began to learn why I wear the badge, even on those bad days. I wear the badge because not many can. It takes strength. It takes courage. It takes someone with enough heart to see the tiny bit of good in those that society has deemed the worse. I wear the badge because I am proud to be a part of something bigger than me. In the Jail we ignite change in the heart of some, while providing security to the public for those that are considered a threat. We stand together to make sure Shelby County and surrounding communities are safe. I wear the badge because I am Shelby County.”
- Sgt. Camry Porter, Corrections Deputy, Main Jail

“Joining a unit like SWAT is special because we go after the worst of the worst, those who show blatant disregard for life and property. Being around this tight knit group of people reassures me that my work makes a difference and that what we do matters.”
- Deputy Andreas Nunley, SWAT Team

“Working in Law Enforcement has not always been a dream of mine. However, helping others has. I wear the badge simply because I enjoy protecting and serving the citizens of our community. Most importantly, I enjoy being part of the positive shift in Law Enforcement.”
- Deputy Takeisha Sprouse, Uniform Patrol

"The reason I wear the badge is to help someone to live another day. I recall stopping a nurse from Methodist Hospital for speeding 85 mph in a 55 mph zone. When I stopped her she was crying. I asked her was she ok and she said 'Thank you for stopping me! I was trying to get up enough speed to hit something to kill myself and when you stopped me it was God’s way of telling me that he Loves me.' I talked to her about God's Love for us and let her go. We are here to help and sometime, it comes in the form of an arrest or even a word of grace."
- Deputy Wesley Parks, Courts
